Cyprus Film Days

The International Film Festival ‘Cyprus Film Days’ is the official competitive film festival of Cyprus, held every April. It is co-organised by the Deputy Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus and Rialto Theatre.

From its inaugural year in 2003, the Festival has set the objective of offering the Cypriot public screenings of high quality films. The same objective applies to the international competition section entitled ‘Glocal Images’, which attracts independent creators whose work captures the character of different cultures, offering a unique approach to themes of global interest. A three-member Artistic Committee, appointed by the Deputy Ministry of Culture and Rialto Theatre, is responsible for the selection of the films as well as the preparation of the screenings programme and parallel events, while the Jury is made up of distinguished personalities from the film industry.

The Festival aims not only to broaden its appeal within the geographical boundaries of Cyprus, but to attract both industry and audience members from abroad by becoming a cinematic meeting point for the three continents surrounding the island.

The Festival consists of the following categories:

Glocal Images – International Competition Section
Viewfinder – A Close Up on Contemporary International Cinema
Parallel Programmes with special screenings, themed sections and tributes to the work of distinguished filmmakers from around the world.
Parallel events featuring workshops and masterclasses.

The following awards are presented at the Festival’s Competition Section:

Best Film, Glocal Images, accompanied by a prize of €6,000
Special Jury Award, Glocal Images, accompanied by a prize of €3,000
Best Director, Glocal Images, accompanied by a prize of € 1,000

Each year, the Festival hosts globally renowned artists and practitioners from the industry, such as Phedon Papamichael, who delivered a Masterclass in 2022.
