Cyprus Mountains

Go for a trip to the Cyprus mountains and discover how different the view of the island is from up there. The peaks of the Troodos mountains, which reach up to 2,000 metres above sea level, provide an excellent panoramic view of all four corners of the island. It is the perfect place to cool down during the hot summer period but also a great get-away all year round. Troodos mountains are a very popular place to enjoy the mountain air and nature in all its splendour.

Omodos – Limassol

The village of Omodos is situated 42 kilometres north-west of the city of Limassol, in the Krassohorion area. It is located near the western bank of the river Ha, at an average altitude of 810 metres. Omodos is surrounded by high mountain peaks and the highest of these peaks is Afamis at 1,153 metres and Kremmos of Laonas at 1,092 metres.


Troodos

The cluster of mountains surrounding the Troodos area provide the highest mountain range in Cyprus, reaching an altitude of 1,951 metres. The area close to the Hionistras peak is also included in the Troodos mountain range. This is where the three roads that link the mountain with Nicosia, Limassol and Prodromo meet, giving it the name Three Avenues.

Lefkara - Larnaca

The mountainous village of Lefkara is located in the Larnaca district and is separated into Pano (up) and Kato (down) Lefkara. The village is well-known around the world for its traditional embroidered lace, known as Lefkaritika, and its silver handicrafts. Lefkara is built at the foot of the south eastern side of the Troodos mountain range, 650 meters above sea level and 3 kilometres from Larnaca. The village can be reached by following the A5, A1 and E105.


As the island is located between Europe, Asia and Africa, Cyprus is a unique destination for bird watchers as flamingos flock to the Larnaca Salt Lake every year. Bird watching enthusiasts can also enjoy the sight of a large range of other important species that pass through or breed on the island. Probably the most fascinating of the animals on the island is the mouflon, which is considered to be the island’s national animal. The mouflon, which is a shy wild sheep, roams the forest freely and is a splendour for locals and visitors to see.

Agros

The village of Agros is located 35 kilometers north of Limassol, at an altitude of around 1,100 meters above sea level. It is considered to be one of the most interesting mountainous villages in Cyprus and it is the principal village of the Pitsilias area, as it is located n the centre. Agros is well-known for its rose industry and for its other local products, such as, grapes and spoon sweets.

Kakopetria – Troodos

The village of Kakopetria is located in the Troodos mountain range, in the Solea valley, and is within the district of Nicosia. Kakopetria is a popular summer resort due to its charming character and alluring scenery, complete with a pine tree forest that stretches the whole length of the Karkotis valley.


The island is blessed with the beauty of nature, in all its wonder. Its scenery spreads from its glorious shores, to its steep mountains, its aromatic forests and its rugged capes.

Picturesque villages, with their paved streets and preserved architectural look, nest in the slopes of mountains, among pine trees, vineyards and orchards. The specific climate conditions created by the high altitude and strange geological substrate, constitute the perfect situations to allow the large range of plants and flowers to grow in the Troodos area. Here we can find around 800 different plant species and 72 endemic birds, 12 of which can only be found here.
